The history of Langar started almost 900 years ago with the entry of Hazrat Khwaja Garib Nawaz (R.A.), who taught humanity a new message of ekta unity, and service Khidmate Khalq.
It is said that Hazrat Khwaja Garib Nawaz just have to hold the corner of his mat, and underneath it, provisions for the Langer will mysteriously appear by the grace of Almighty Allah. From that time, this miracle is unbroken currently at the Ajmer Sharif Dargah, where Langar is run and every day thousands of people are being fed.
This service of the spirit is still carried by the Khadims of Ajmer Sharif, who are the custodians of the holy shrine and the real heirs of the legacy and continues with the directives of Gaddi Nasheen Ajmer Sharif, this Langar presented as a token of love and service from the spiritual pilgrimage.

The Heart of the Langar
The two grand cooking pots, the Badi Deg and the Choti Deg, are placed inside the courtyard of the Dargah Sharif. These were made in the form of presents of the Mughal emperors themselves. In 1567,
Emperor Akbar rewarded the Badi Deg for cooking nearly 4800 kilograms of food in one time, and Emperor Jahangir rewarded the Choti Deg for cooking nearly 2,400 kilograms of food at Dargah Sharif.
The Niyaz is boiled in the Deg to make sweet rice, Dal Gosht, Biryani, Pulao, Tahari, or Korma, whichever the Devotees does Niyaz depending on the income devotes.
It is cooked with pure ghee or ghee of Cow’s milk, Rice, Saffron, Sugar, Dried fruits, and few things. After cooking when the Niyaz is distributed and eaten in general, it is reffered as Niyaz Langar, i.e. the free spreaded Boon to all whomever it went.
