Ajmer Sharif Dargah Urs 2026 Dates and Ceremony Guide

The ajmer sharif dargah will host the annual Urs Mubarak 2026 of Hazrat Khwaja Garib Nawaz (R.A.) in December. Advance programmes place the main observances between 11 and 19 December 2026, including Chhatti Sharif, the opening of Jannati Darwaza, and Bara Qul. Anyone planning to attend should understand both the schedule and the purpose of these gatherings, especially because lunar dates and local arrangements may change.

Why the 815th Urs Is Observed

The annual remembrance honours Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti (R.A.), the respected Sufi saint whose teachings emphasised kindness, humility, and service to people in need.

In the Chishti tradition, Urs marks a saint's passing and is remembered as a spiritual reunion with the Creator. It is observed through recitation, prayer, devotional gatherings, and the sharing of food.

The commemoration takes place during Rajab, a month in the Islamic lunar calendar. The dates therefore move across the Gregorian calendar each year. The December 2026 gathering is widely described in advance programmes as the 815th Urs.

Important date clarification: The existing Urs timetable lists the flag ceremony for 5 December, while other published plans give 6 December. Friday falls on both 11 and 18 December. Do not rely on a single advance listing for the flag ceremony, special prayer arrangements, or exact gate-opening hours. Confirm the local programme closer to the event.

What Happens at the Beginning of Urs?

The flag ceremony, also called Jhanda Kushai, signals that the annual occasion is approaching. Traditional observances follow over the coming days as families arrive from different parts of India and abroad.

The decorated courtyards and surrounding market streets become particularly busy. Some people come for a brief ziyarat, while others remain for several days to attend religious gatherings.

The formal programme is not the same as ordinary daily visiting arrangements. Security controls, queues, and access routes can change depending on the number of people present.

Jannati Darwaza and Chhatti Sharif

Jannati Darwaza, also known as Bahishti Darwaza, is a historic gateway associated with special occasions at the blessed resting place. Its opening is traditionally an important part of the annual celebration.

Advance plans indicate access from 11 December, with closure associated with 16 December. The exact hours and crowd arrangements should be confirmed locally. You can read more in the Jannati Darwaza guide.

Chhatti Sharif is the sixth-day observance. It features Fateha, Quran recitation, and remembrance of the saint's life. Families may include the names of loved ones in their personal prayers.

This annual occasion should not be confused with the regular monthly Chhatti gathering. The Chhatti Sharif information page explains that tradition separately.

Bara Qul and the Closing Gatherings

Bara Qul is listed for 19 December 2026 in the advance programme. It is associated with concluding recitations and prayers after the principal days of remembrance.

Qawwali and other devotional gatherings form part of the wider atmosphere during the festival. Their timings may depend on the local programme and the spaces available.

Rather than trying to attend every activity, families can decide which observances are most meaningful and plan around travel needs, health, and crowd conditions.

Chadar Offerings and Deg Niyaz During Urs

Some visitors present a chadar sharif as a traditional gesture of respect. Cloth, flowers, and other arrangements vary in type and cost, so it is sensible to ask for a clear explanation before confirming anything.

Deg Niyaz refers to food prepared and distributed through established customs. The historic Badi Deg and Choti Deg are associated with cooking on different scales.

Large food arrangements may be restricted or unavailable during the busiest days. Never assume that a requested cooking date can be booked during the annual observance. Check practical availability well in advance.

A nazrana, voluntary offering, or gifted amount should always have a clear purpose. It is important to distinguish personal service arrangements from donations made to an institution.

Planning Travel to Rajasthan in December

Ajmer Junction is a useful arrival point for railway passengers. The old-city streets near the religious complex can be crowded, with limited vehicle access at busy times.

Book accommodation early if you wish to attend the main dates. December evenings may be cool, so carry suitable clothing along with essentials such as prescribed medicines and drinking water.

Modest dress, head covering where required, and removal of footwear in designated spaces are expected. Follow instructions from authorised personnel and keep valuables secure.

For older family members or people with mobility needs, ask about suitable access arrangements before travelling. A shorter visit during a quieter period may be more comfortable than attempting several crowded ceremonies.

Dua and Guidance for Families Unable to Attend

People who cannot travel may still remember Khwaja Sahib (R.A.) through dua, Quran recitation, and kindness towards others.

For personal enquiries concerning traditional ziyarat guidance or possible arrangements during the gathering, Gaddi Nasheen Syed Fakhar Nawaz Chishti can be contacted at +91 85296 71277.

This is a contact for his services and guidance, not a general number for the site's official administration. If discussing a chadar, food distribution, or other offering, confirm the activity, amount, and responsible person before sending funds.

The lasting message of Garib Nawaz is expressed through compassion and practical service. Whether someone attends in person or remembers the occasion from home, the emphasis should remain on sincere faith and care for others.
