Shah Jahan Ajmer Sharif Dargah History Explained

Shah Jahan Ajmer Sharif Dargah history shows how deeply the Mughal emperor was connected to the holy shrine. Shah Jahan visited Ajmer Sharif Dargah five times during his twenty-one years of rule. Each visit was made with respect to offer prayers at the blessed shrine of Hazrat Khwaja Garib Nawaz (R.A.). His first visit took place in the year of his coronation, where he presented gifts and offerings at Ajmer Sharif.

शहंशाहे हिन्द शाहजहाँ ने अपने इक्कीस साला दौरे हुकूमत में पाँच बार अजमेरे मुकद्दस पहुँचकर सरकारे ख़्वाजा गरीब नवाज़ की बारगाह में हाज़िरी देने का शरफ हासिल किया है। पहली बार अपनी तख़्तनशीनी के साल हाज़िरे बारगाह हुआ और सय्यद अजमेर शरीफ को अपने अतीय्यात से खुश किया।

During another visit on 7 Rajab 1046 Hijri, Shah Jahan arrived in Ajmer and first stayed near the Ana Sagar lake. From there, he walked barefoot to the dargah as a sign of deep respect and devotion.

फिर 7 रजब 1046 हि० में वारिदे अजमेर होकर कस्बे फैज़ किया। पहले अनासागर के किनारे केयाम किया फिर वहाँ से पैदल चलकर आस्तानए पाक पर हाज़िर हुआ।

On this visit, he gave ten thousand rupees to the caretakers of the shrine and also offered donations to the needy people. After completing his ziyarat and prayers, he went to the mosque.

इसी मौके पर मुब्लिग दस हज़ार रूप्ये वहाँ के खुद्दामे आलीमकाम को दिए। शाहजहाँ ने सय्यद अजमेर शरीफ को दस हज़ार का नज़राना पेश किया और फिर दुआ और जियारत का शरफ हासिल करके जामेअ मस्जिद आया।

His third visit took place in 1049 Hijri, during which Princess Jahanara Begum also accompanied him from Agra.

तीसरी हाजरी 1049 हि० में हुई इस मौके पर शहज़ादी जहाँआरा बेगम आगरा से हमराह आई थीं।

In his fourth visit in 1053 Hijri, Shah Jahan again came to Ajmer and stayed at Daulat Bagh. From there, he walked barefoot to the shrine, performed ziyarat, and again offered ten thousand rupees as donation. He also distributed charity among the needy. Jahanara Begum was also present during this visit.

चौथी बार 1053 हि० में फिर रौनक अफ्रोज़े अजमेर हुआ। दौलतबाग में केयाम किया वहाँ से पैदल चलकर हज़रत ख्वाजा गरीब नवाज रदिअल्लान्ह के आस्ताने पर हाज़िर हुआ। मज़ारे अकदस की जियारत करने के बाद शाहजहाँ ने इस बार फिर से दस हजार रूप्ये नज़राने में पेश किए सईद अजमेर शरीफ को, और दूसरे ज़रूरतमन्दों को अतिये तक्सीम किए इस मौके पर भी शहजादी जहाँआरा, बेगम साथ आई थी।

His fifth visit is mentioned in historical books, where it is recorded that in 1064 Hijri, Shah Jahan again traveled to Ajmer to visit the sacred shrine of Hazrat Khwaja Garib Nawaz (R.A.).

पाँचवीं मरतबा की हाज़िरी का जिक्र तारीखे राजपरसस्ती,, में सेरुलमुतअख्खिरीन, और मितुल आलम के हवाले से किया गया है। 1064 हि० में शाहजहाँ हज़रत सय्यदना ख्वाजा गरीब नवाज रदिअल्लाहनहु के मज़ारे अकदस पर हाज़िरी देने केलिए अजमेर गया।

Jahanara Begum Spiritual Journey

Jahanara Begum, the daughter of Shah Jahan, also visited Ajmer Sharif Dargah and showed deep devotion. She wrote about her spiritual experience in her book, describing her journey with great emotion and respect.

शहज़ादी जहाँआरा बेगम ने दो मरतबा अपने वालिदे माजिद शाहजहाँ बादशाह के साथ अजमेर शरीफ जाकर रौज़ए अक़दस सय्यदना हज़रत ख्वाजा गरीब नवाज़ के आस्ताने पर हाज़िरी दी है।

She traveled from Agra on 13 Shaban 1049 Hijri and reached Ajmer on 7 Ramadan. During her journey, she offered prayers at every stop and recited Surah Yaseen and Surah Fatiha with sincerity, sending the reward to the blessed soul of Khwaja Garib Nawaz (R.A.).

During her stay, she lived with great humility and respect. She did not sleep on a bed and spent her days in devotion. She remained near the Ana Sagar and spent her time in prayer and remembrance.

कुछ दिनों तक अनासागर की इमारत में केयाम रहा। दौराने केयाम बपासे अदबो ताअज़ीम कभी पलंग पर नहीं सोई और न रौज़ए मुनव्वरा की जानिब पुश्त और पाँव किए पूरा पूरा दिन दरख़्तों के साए में गुज़ार देती थी।

She experienced deep peace and spiritual joy during her stay. One night, she arranged a gathering of prayer and light. She expressed her wish to spend everything she had for the service and decoration of the shrine.

हज़रत सय्यदना ख़्वाजा गरीब नवाज़ की बरकत और फैज़ के असर से इतंमीनाने कल्ब के साथ साथ ज़ौक़ पैदा होगया। एक शब मैं ने महफिले मौलूद मुन्अकिद की खूब चराग़ाँ किया...

She performed ziyarat with great devotion, walked around the sacred tomb seven times, applied perfume with her own hands, and offered a chadar that she had brought with her.

गुंबद शरीफ में हाज़िर होकर सात मरतबा मज़ारे पाक का तांफ किया... मज़ार शरीफ पर इत्र अपने हाथों से मला और चादरे गुल... पेश की।

After offering prayers in the mosque built by Shah Jahan, she stayed in the dargah until evening. She lit lamps, broke her fast with water from Jhalra, and felt deep peace that she could not describe in words.

बादे अज़ाँ संगे मरमर की मस्जिद में आकर नमाज़ पढ़ी... ख्वाजए बुजुर्ग के यहाँ शमा रौशन करके आबे झालरा से रोज़ा इफ्तार किया...

Aurangzeb Visits

Mughal emperor Aurangzeb also visited Ajmer Sharif Dargah multiple times. During one of his visits, he offered five thousand rupees to the caretakers and performed ziyarat of the sacred shrine.

शहंशाह औरंग ज़ेब आलमगीर... मज़ारे अदस का तवाफ किया और पाँच हज़ार रूप्ये... इनायत किए।

He later visited again in 1090 Hijri and offered further donations. On his final visit, he once again came to Ajmer and received spiritual blessings from the shrine.

फिर बतारीख 18 मुहर्रमुल हराम 1090 हि० में हाज़िरे आस्ताना हुए... अखिरी बार... इक्तिसाबे फैज़ किया।

Lord Curzon Observation

In 1902, Lord Curzon, the Viceroy of India, also visited Ajmer Sharif Dargah. After seeing people from all religions coming together and the respect given to the shrine, he wrote that he had seen a grave ruling like a king.

हिन्दुस्तान के वायसराय लॉर्ड कर्जन ने भी 1902 ई0 में... वह लिखते हैं कि मैं ने हिन्दुस्तान में एक कब्र को शहंशाही करते देखा है।
